Agarwood, or oud, is the most precious material in oriental perfumery. European houses have each tamed it in their own way: smoky and raw at Xerjoff Oud Stars, softened by rose at Armani/Privé, velveted by saffron at Dolce & Gabbana, polished and modern at Tom Ford.
